Legend has it that King George III, stumbled upon a unique little chair while seeking refuge at a peasant cottage during a storm. He was given a simple yet elegant, spindle-back chair to sit on. It impressed him so much that he took the design back to his castle in Windsor to be reproduced. The humble beginnings of this beloved "Windsor chair" were later perfected in colonial America, but over time it spread throughout North America, and into the workshops and homesteads of rural Canada. The Windsor chair is one of the most iconic furniture pieces of all time. It has survived countless iterations and is still-bent back and arm rail, which streamlines the chair and improves the structure. The slender wooden dowel construction gives it a delicate visual quality, while the straight spindles and absence of ornament take this age-old object into the present-day.
